Some manufacturers feel that the days of buying cotton for 66 cents a pound are perhaps long gone as we now see this commodity trading for more than $1.42 a pound.
This price hike is forcing manufacturers/vendors to use more synthetic fibers and yarns in a garment, so we are now seeing the ratio of a poly/cotton blend change to 55-60% poly and 40-50% cotton. Some other cotton alternative blends are Modal and Tencel blends and rayon/cotton. Bamboo is also a key component in manufacturing.
Look for a unique selling feature in men’s denim and the incorporation of more synthetic fibers, irrespective of the price of cotton possibly dipping as we head into Spring.
Designers are currently striving to be more creative, to step outside the box to call our attention to more interesting, hip garments.
